Rumors have been floating around for a while, but now they're getting more and more solid: Spaceballs: The Animated Series is coming to DVD in 2009! This cartoon spin-off of the cult classic Mel Brooks movie is produced by Brooks, who also reprises two of his roles from the film: "Yogurt" and "President Skroob". Daphne Zuniga returns as the voice of "Princess Vespa," and Joan Rivers lends her voice again as "Dot Matrix". Joining the cast are Rino Romano ("Batman" on The Batman) as "Lone Starr", Dee Bradley Baker (the fishy "Klaus" on American Dad) as "Dark Helmet" and Tino Insana ("Uncle Ted" on Bobby's World) as "Barf". The animated program has been airing on the G4 cable channel since September. Word has leaked out to retailers that MGM and distributor Fox Home Entertainment are planning a DVD release of the show's first season. Plans aren't finalized yet, but it looks like we'll see it in the March/April timeframe. Stay tuned and we'll keep you updated, as more information comes to light about this title. In the meantime, may the Schwartz be with you!
