For a couple of weeks now, we've been getting emails from a number of our readers, who we're grateful to for pointing us toward
this post at HobbyTalk.com, dated 3/7/12, which says the following:
"I got off the phone with A&E. They have discontinued all the Gerry Anderson inventory, including the recently-released Bluray Disc set of Series One. They also said they stopped work on remastering Series Two in Hi-Def, which A&E was doing themselves since Network in England wasn't."
We've been looking into this ourselves, with Gord reaching out to the studio and trying to confirm this information independently. Our good friend Bill Hunt of
The Digital Bits also reached out about this info, and it appears that the studio got back to him first. Yesterday Bill posted this very reassuring information:
"Finally today, a number of you have e-mailed us to ask about rumors that have been circulating around the Net since last week to the effect that New Video and A&E Home Video have stopped work on the Blu-ray release of Space: 1999 - Season Two. I can report to you all today that BOTH A&E and New Video have told us that there's no truth to this. We're waiting for additional details from them, but in the meantime know that the rumors are inaccurate. Space: 1999 - Season Two is apparently still in production for Blu-ray. More soon."
Thanks, Bill, for clearing that up! We're glad to pass this on to our readers as well, and get the accurate information out there. Like him, we hope to have additional information in the not-too-distant future about the Blu-ray Disc release of
Space: 1999 - The Complete Season 2. Stay tuned for that!
