Yesterday Paramount
announced that
South Park - The Complete 12th Season is coming to both DVD and Blu-ray Disc formats, day and date on
March 10th. Today we've got an early look at possible box cover art for both versions, courtesy of the studio's documents provided to retailers (and our friends in the industry who forwarded them to us, of course...thanks!). You can see those at the bottom.
Some write-ups about this release have hailed it as the first animated TV show season set to be released on Blu-ray, or words to that effect. That's inaccurate, of course, since Warner had that honor this past August with their Blu-ray release of
Justice League - Season 1.
We've also had a few of our readers write in, questioning the info we posted that this release would be full screen, rather than wide, considering that it's a high-def release (and considering that other DVD news sites posted info yesterday that this will be in widescreen). Once again, we've confirmed from the studio info, using multiple sources, that this Blu-ray release is going to be in a 1.33:1 "full frame" format...but in 1080p resolution. Just like
Justice League - Season 1 has been.
Pricing on the DVD format version of
South Park - The Complete 12th Season is $49.99 SRP, but you can
pre-order the DVD from DVDEmpire for $37.99. The high-definition Blu-ray release is priced at $69.99 SRP, but you can
pre-order the Blu-ray from DVDEmpire for $53.30. All discounted costs are as of this writing, and could be subject to change at DVDEmpire's discretion.
Finally, we've also learned that, in addition to the bonus material mentioned in yesterday's report, these titles also "
includes downloadable Digital Copy offer." No details on that are available yet, and it could be subject to change. As could the cover art shown below, but here's what we've got so far:
