Equal parts Desperate Housewives, Mama's Family, Soap and Will & Grace, this outrageous comedy depicts the saga of bible-thumping Baptists, chain-smoking bar trash, an institutionalized drag queen, his Valium popping sisters, and everyone in between in a small Texas town, contrasted with the appearance-driven world of Hollywood and the hysterical travesty and tender poignancy that come from learning to be yourself and love the family you have instead of the family you want.
Based on the quirky play and cult movie of the same name, this hilarious TV adaptation is also written and directed by creator Del Shores (Queer as Folk, Dharma & Greg). This off-beat and edgy prequel to the hit film features a cavalcade of high profile camp icons including the legendary Rue McClanahan (The Golden Girls), Olivia Newton-John (Grease), Leslie Jordan (Will & Grace), Caroline Rhea (Sabrina, the Teenage Witch), Bonnie Bedelia (Die Hard), Beth Grant (No Country for Old Men), Bobbie Eakes (All My Children), Dale Dickey (My Name is Earl), Carson Kressley (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy), Candis Cayne (Dirty Sexy Money) and comedian Margaret Cho.
The much-anticipated collection contains all 12 episodes of this larger-than-life Southern-fried soap opera in its rarely seen original raw format, plus over 80 minutes of exclusive behind-the-scenes footage including bloopers, five Olivia Newton-John song performances, deleted scenes, photo galleries and more!
In 2009, Visual Entertainment Inc. (VEI) of Canada released Sordid Lives - The Series: Uncut And Uncensoredon DVD format, making fans extremely happy. And while the State-side fans of the show imported it quite a bit, this release was officially only for distribution in Canada. So at the beginning of 2011, Well Go USA released the show in the United States on both DVD and Blu-ray Disc formats. But again, the rights were specific to one country and not the other, so Canadian fans haven't been able to find the Blu-ray version in their local stores.
Now VEI is going to take care of that, with their December 6th release of Sordid Lives - The Series: Uncut And Uncensored on high-def Blu-ray Disc. As you can see from the studio description quoted at the top, this will have all the bonus material that VEI's old DVD release contained (and which the Well Go releases for the States have lacked). Price will be a mere CA$19.95 SRP for this single-disc release, and here's the package art:
