AgentDVD, the trade journals who bring us the annual DVD Critics Awards, have announced their winners for 2009. As we
The Sopranos - The Complete Series. This marks the first time a TV-DVD release took the "best of the year" category. Note that this was for the original November 2008 release of the title, pictured at bottom, rather than the recently announced
repackaged set. The same release also won for "Best Collection/Multidisc Set".
The award for "Best TV DVD" went to Lionsgate's
Mad Men - Season 1, while the award for "Best Packaging" went to Anchor Bay/Starz for
Masters of Horror - Season 2 and their "skull" case. MGM/Fox took home the "Best Nontheatrical Title" award for their direct-to-video release of
Stargate: Continuum.
For the consumer voting, the award for "Best Period Piece" went to HBO's new high-definition Blu-ray Disc release of
Band of Brothers. And Warner Home Video was tops with the fans in the "Funniest DVD/Blu-ray" category, for their release of [adult swim]'s first
