We've got some good news - the first in a while! - for fans of
My Three Sons. People waiting for the show to be released on DVD were simply ecstatic this past February when we
reported that CBS DVD and Paramount Home Entertainment had announced a June 3rd release of
My Three Sons - The 1st Season, Volume 1, featuring half of the 36 episodes in the show's first season. They even provided package art, which you see again below.
What's wrong with that? Well, late the following day the studio did something we hadn't seen much of: they actually sent us a "recall notice",
retracting the announcement and telling us that they would "
keep [us]
informed as to the availability" of the title. Nothing more has been heard from the studio so far, though, except that the package art happened to show up as part of a 3-page ad which CBS DVD placed with industry trade magazine
Video Business in April, with the tag line "We Don't Just Put TV On DVD...We Put It On A Pedestal". You can see the ad shown
at the bottom of a Star Trek story we posted around that time;
My Three Sons - The 1st Season, Volume 1 was the only "unannounced" title pictured in the ad.
As of this morning, the studio still hasn't added the title back in to the schedule at their password- protect press site. However, the folks at trade publication
Home Media Magazine have listed the DVD release of
My Three Sons - The 1st Season, Volume 1 in their "Coming Up" sidebar on the most recent print issue, in their TV-DVD column on Page 16. There it states that this 3-DVD set will cost $42.99 SRP, and be available starting on
September 30th.
We're trying to confirm this independently with distributors Paramount Home Entertainment, but frankly experience teaches us that we don't expect them to otherwise comment on this matter to us except to formally (re-)announce it whenever they are ready to. We *expect* that the details originally reported, as well as the box art shown below (which appeared in the trade mag ad), are going to remain the same. Stay tuned and we'll let you know if anything changes!
