It was with great pleasure the other day that we
reported the release date (and showed off the package art) for the long-awaited DVD release of
My Three Sons - The 1st Season, Volume 1. The announcement from CBS/Paramount this past Tuesday stated that we could expect this release to arrive on June 3rd. However, yesterday we received a notice from the studio that the title's announcement was being "recalled", and that they'll "
keep [us]
informed as to the availability of this title".
It is not the first time that Paramount has announced a release, and then quickly removed it from the schedule (for instance,
this story we posted in May 2007 names two examples). We quickly checked Paramount's password-protected retailer/press site and confirmed that this was removed from the schedule there, along with other titles announced this past Tuesday. The other TV-DVD title removed was
Jericho - The 2nd Season (see our separate story on that). Also taken off the list were special editions of all three previous
Indiana Jones films, previously scheduled for mid-May. Also the April 8th planned release on DVD and HD DVD of the Daniel Day-Lewis film
There Will Be Blood has also apparently been scrubbed.
We sent a message to Paramount at mid-day yesterday, requesting a comment about reasons for withdrawing the title from the schedule, and any indication of a new release date if the title is delayed. So far no reply has been received from the studio, so we've decided to go ahead and inform our readers that this release is currently off the schedule. We regret that we don't have the ability to tell you if it is delayed, or canceled, or to give you any reasons for the change. Our contacts in the retail industry weren't provided with this information, either; they are as much in the dark as we are.
Studios will juggle their home video release schedules all the time, though, and find it necessary to move release dates around. It seems that Paramount had a lot of that going on during this week...more than they usually would! Stay tuned, though, and we'll keep you updated on the status of
