A few weeks ago we
first reported that Shout! Factory is prepping a 4-disc (3 DVDs and 1 CD) set of
Sonic Underground, with a planned release date of
December 18th. Since we haven't seen an official announcement for the release yet, we asked Shout! for an update about this release, and got a response from DVD Producer Brian Ward (who first talked about the set on Shout! official discussion forum).
Brian tells us that Sonic Underground's production "is going really well." He expects fans to be very pleased with the video/audio quality, and tells us that the masters are sharp and the result ought to be a nice transfer.
Brian's a huge advocate of bonus material on DVDs, and he tells us they've got two great featurettes. The first is a retrospective look at
Sonic Underground with Executive Producer Robby London. The other is a look at the original songs from the show, featuring Mike "Pic" Piccirillo. Piccirillo wrote almost all the songs on
Sonic Underground, with the notable exception of the main theme song.
Shout! will also include an option to play only the "music video" portions of the episodes on their own. Plus there will be a series of video concept art galleries. Then there's the bonus 4th disc in the set, that is an audio CD containing eight of
Sonic Underground's Greatest Hits. Brian tells us he's "liking the set more and more everyday."
Our thanks to Brian Ward of Shout! Factory for taking the time to fill us in on some of these details. We'll let you know when the set is formally announced, and then we can give you cost and cover art. Stay tuned!
