There's no doubt about it: times are tough! And the difficult economy seems to be as far-reaching as Smurf village. With the first season of the classic cartoon show already out in a pair of multi-disc DVD sets, Warner Home Video wants to move forward with second season episodes. But instead of sticking to the multi-disc collections, they instead have announced a low-priced single-disc title that is currently being listed everywhere, at the studio and at pre-order listings such as Amazon
, as "The Smurfs - Volume 1
However, the text of some studio information available to retailers, which provides content listings of this release, describes this title instead as The Smurfs - Season 2, Volume 1
(and gives indications to expect a second and third volume, and possibly more). Package art isn't available yet, so it's difficult to say how for-sure that is. However, since all the episodes provided in Warner's description are from early in the second season, we'll go ahead and refer to this release as The Smurfs - Season 2, Volume 1
, unless we later find out otherwise through final box art or some other reliable method.
This 1-DVD release is scheduled for February 17th
, at a cost of just $14.98 SRP (as of this writing you can currently pre-order it from Amazon at the link above for $10.49, but that's subject to change at Amazon's discretion). Amazon has the pricing correct, but makes the error of showing this as a two-disc set that runs 345 minutes. We've confirmed with the studio info, in multiple places, that this is a single disc that will clock in at 92 minutes, and contain these episodes:
- S-Shivering S-Smurf
- Turncoat Smurf
- The Smurf Who Couldn't Say No
- The Haunted Castle
- The Black Hellebore
No bonus material is planned for this release. Video is full frame, audio is English and there will be English subtitles as well. It will come packaged in a standard "Amaray" snap-case, for those of you wondering about how it will look on your shelf next to the first season releases. We wish we had package art to show you, but as we said it's not ready yet. Stay tuned and we'll update you with that, and anything more we find out about this title.
