For over a year, we've posted a half-dozen stories unofficially telling you that
The Smurfs were going to see the DVD light of day in the United States. Now we are very pleased to tell you that Warner Home Entertainment has made it officially OFFICIAL this morning, with their formal announcement of
The Smurfs - Season 1, Volume 1 !
Last week we
spilled the beans on the street date that would be announced, and we were right on-the-mark with
February 26, 2008. Cost is $26.99 SRP for what is confirmed to be a 2-disc set. The second disc will be a "flipper," though, containing additional material on the back side. Here is the breakdown:
- Disc 1 (single-sided):
- "The Smurf’s Apprentice"
- "The Smurfette"
- "Vanity Fare"
- "King Smurf"
- "The Astrosmurf"
- "Jokey’s Medicine"
- "St. Smurf and the Dragon"
- "Sorcerer Smurf"
- "The Smurfs and the Howlibird"
- Disc 2, Side A:
- "The Magical Meanie"
- "Bewitched, Bothered and Be-Smurfed"
- "Smurf-Colored Glasses"
- "Dreamy’s Nightmare"
- "Fuzzle Trouble"
- "Soup A La Smurf"
- "All That Glitters Isn’t Smurf"
- "Romeo and Smurfette"
- "The Hundredth Smurf"
- "Smurphony in ‘C’ "
- Disc 2, Side B:
- Bonus Episode - Smurfs' Springtime Special
- "Smurfs: The Music Video" - A 3-minute music video featuring the famous title sound track, cut to the rhythm of the best moments from the first season.
Video is 1.33:1 Full-Frame, just as originally aired, and has been re-mastered for this DVD release. Audio is the original English Mono format, with English subtitles as well. Running time is 345 minutes. We're expecting a full press release next week. Below is the front and rear cover art which we've shown you previously; we've already informed the studio that the rear art refers to the syndicated show title "
Smurfs' Adventures," and we're hoping that they fix this to the correct title of
The Smurfs before the boxes go to the printers:
