A few weeks ago we posted the unhappy
report that the
The Smurfs - Season 1, Volume 1 DVD release, originally said by Warner on multiple occasions to be planned for release in 2007, would not make it by the end of the year after all. We concluded that write-up by stating we'd bring you the actual street date, once Warner made it official.
We apologize, but what we're about to tell you is NOT official. A studio announcement has not gone out yet, nor is it likely to until next week (as a guess). However, the info we have is from so solid a source, we feel extremely confident in passing this along to our readers.
The 2-DVD set of
The Smurfs - Season 1, Volume 1, running $26.99 SRP, is now being planned for a street date of
February 26, 2008.
We feel VERY strongly about that info, but please...still take it with a grain of salt. When Warner makes an official announcement, we'll let you know. And remember, even that's not for-sure until you hold the product in your hands! Even after announcements are made public, date changes still occur (as fans of
Aqua Teen Hunger Force have already found out this morning).
Why the delays? We've heard rumors - and this is kinda iffy, so we're not sure how accurate it is - that Warner wanted to go back over the release and make darn sure that the release contained the material as originally broadcast under the name
The Smurfs, and not as shown in syndication later on (where the show went by the name
Smurf Adventures). We tried to confirm this reason for the delay with a couple of our sources who would know such a thing, but they ain't talkin'. Still, it would be good to know that, actually...we love to see a studio taking the time to make sure the release is right. Especially one like this, that is super-important to the fans!
Stay tuned and we will update you as soon as we have the formal info.
