Last week we
reported that
Smallville - The Complete 6th Season had successfully made it out on street date (Sept. 18th) in the USA with DVD and HD DVD versions, but that the Blu-ray Disc version had slipped a day or two due to "a small production delay" at the manufacturing plant. It's now resolved and has confirmed to be reaching people...in the States.
North of the border is a different story: BOTH the Blu-ray and HD DVD versions have been officially delayed in Canada. The DVD version made it out on the 18th, but the two Hi-Def versions are pushed back until
October 9th in Canada. No reason was given for this postponement in the delay notice. Since HD DVD is affected, too, we expect that it is unrelated to the brief Blu-ray delay in the USA. The new street date is
now reflected at Amazon.ca.
Furthermore, we've received some reports from Canadians who picked up the DVD version that the booklet inserts are missing, similar to a
2004 issue with Gilmore Girls - Season 1 and a
2006 issue with The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. Warner - Canada has not immediately replied to our request for info on what affected consumers should do, but we DON'T recommend trying the methods used for the previous two experiences (the fact that the resolution method changed from one time to the next should be proof of that).
We're trying to find out more about both of these issues, so stay tuned!
