There's been a "Blu-ray Delay" with
Smallville - The Complete 6th Season. We've gotten reader e-mail, and seen posts on the discussion forums, where people are wondering just what is going on with the Blu-ray version of this release. Customers could easily find DVD product in stores when it streeted the other day (Tuesday, September 18th). And HD DVD versions could be found, for stores that carried them. But noone could find a Blu-ray Disc edition, and any online retailer you could think of to check, did not show any as being in-stock.
I went out Tuesday afternoon, looking to see if I could personally find any Blu-ray editions in my neighborhood. After not having any success, I contacted Warner to ask about the situation. After taking a day to fully investigate the situation, a Warner spokesperson came back to me this morning with the following statement:
There was a small production delay that impacted getting product orders to retail accounts. The issue has been resolved and we're in the process of shipping the balance of retail orders.
They're still not sure exactly to what extent the delay was, or exactly how soon all retail accounts will be fully stocked, but this should be characterized as a routine manufacturing "bump in the road" that sometimes happens with any product, no matter what it is.
Here at TVShowsOnDVD, we'll urge everyone on both sides of the hi-def format war to settle down and NOT take this as any sort of "sign" about what this means in terms of Blu-ray vs. HD DVD format releases. As people who have been collecting DVDs for many many years, we know that "stuff happens" at the factories. Warner had a LOT of other Blu-ray product coming out on Tuesday, 10 titles, so the
Smallville thing is probably no big deal and it looks like it will be in stores very soon now.
**UPDATE**: Amazon.com now
shows this as "In Stock", and is shipping it immediately (I just spoke with them). Furthermore, they have reduced the price by three dollars, to a current cost of $52.95!
