Yesterday saw the
announcement of
Sliders - The 3rd Season for release on
July 19th. The show's third season featured the mid-season departure of actor John Rhys-Davies (from the
Indiana Jones and
Lord of the Rings films) as Professor Arturo, and his replacement in the cast by Kari Wuhrer (who joins
General Hospital's cast this year) as "Maggie Beckett". Near the end of the season we also saw the last of Sabrina Lloyd as "Wade Wells" (much to my regret). Guest stars in this season included great names like Tommy Chong (
That '70s Show, the
Cheech & Chong films), Robert Englund (
V, Nightmare on Elm Street films), Corey Feldman (
The Goonies, The Lost Boys), Danny Masterson (
That '70s Show), Michael York (
Knot's Landing, Austin Powers films), Apollonia Kotero (
Falcon Crest, Purple Rain), Donnie Most (
Happy Days), plus The Who's Roger Daltrey and Guns N' Roses' Duff McKagan.
Fans seem to be pleased that the price on the new season set will be $59.98; you'll also be happy to know (if you don't already own it) that on the same date Universal will lower the price of
Sliders - The 1st and 2nd Seasons box set from $89.98 SRP to $59.98 SRP.
That previous set featured a "Dual Dimension" package that let the discs look like they were "floating" by storing them in foam rubber with slits cut in it to slide each DVD into. This time the studio has opted to go instead with a "Wyncase" package (each disc is stored in a "page" that flips like a book; think
Smallville, Babylon 5, etc.) with an orange tint to it, that is slid into the same type of half-wide cardboard slipcase that we saw in the first box set. This certainly retains the flavor of the previous design, while responding to fan complaints that the foam rubber wasn't as nifty as the studio thought. Here's a picture of the new design:
