Earlier this week we brought you Time-Life's
press release officially announcing their intent to bring
The Six Million Dollar Man - The Complete Series out as a 40-DVD set
This November. We've been getting a LOT of questions from fans since then, asking about which edits (original broadcast or syndication) will be used for the
SMDM episodes, the cross-over
Bionic Woman episodes that are include, and the telefilms (both the three pilot telefilms, and the three post-series telefilms, one of which co-stars Sandra Bullock!). We've been asked about pricing, about availability in Canada, and lots more! Suffice it to say, for now, that we've told you everything we can for now. However, we are passing along every question to our contacts at Time-Life, and encouraging them to provide the answers to each of these on the next press release. So stay tuned for that!
In the meantime, we do have a LITTLE bit more that we can tell you! The press release said that this title "
will initially be available exclusively online at a specially branded site, and fans have wondered what it is. Well, get ready to bookmark, because the landing page will be
www.6MDM.com. Right now it's just a "splash page," with a look at Steve in the opening credits (wearing his iconic red running suit) over a line that says "We have the technology" (
NOTE: actually, this line is different every time the page is loaded, randomly pulling up this phrase and others from the opening dialogue, such as "Steve Austin, astronaut"; "Gentlemen, we can rebuild him"; "Better than he was before," etc.) and a note over the Time-Life logo that pre-orders will be available soon.
Furthermore, I've been in touch with Kenneth Johnson, who confirms that he has now recorded his commentary track for the two-part "The Bionic Woman" episodes from
The Six Million Dollar Man that he wrote. He passed along that he knew how Lindsay Wagner was busy the same day, filming an interview for the Bionic extras she's participating in. Kenny also says he expects to record a commentary track for another two-part
SMDM story, "The Secret of Bigfoot" (which he wrote and produced).
Kenny is obviously having a great time working on these, and it shows in the picture below (which he posted
at his own site in a higher resolution): here you'll see him recording his track for "The Bionic Woman, Parts 1 and 2," and he's pointing at the original 1974 hand-written manuscript he used to write the story! A great relic, to be sure. Kenny also told me a story of how earlier this week he had gone out with his daughter and son-in-law to see the 1921 Rudolph Valentino film
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. He tells me, "
At the intermission I walked up to get some water and standing in the aisle amid the thousand people was Richard -- looking as handsome and tanned as ever. We had a big hug and long chat." All I can say to that is wow, it really is a small world!
UPDATE: Gosh, how could we forget to mention here that Janice Whitby, who played "Katy the Fembot" in the 3-part story "Kill Oscar" (part 2 was a
Six Million Dollar Man episodes, and parts 1 & 3 were
Bionic Woman episodes), has
said at her official website that she's participating in Featurettes on the DVD releases for both shows. Our thanks to the various people who wrote in to point it out to us.
Stay tuned for further updates, just as soon as we can!
