When we launched the new site a few weeks ago we said we would continue to add new features, and we've done so.
You'll notice
Site Preferences at the bottom of the navigation bar. You have control over two options here: Disable popup news items, and Disable Welcome Message.
Disable popup news items: Brian Ford Sullivan from
TheFutonCritic.com jokingly told me that he wished we would have gotten rid of the popup news items on the site with the redesign. I took his complaint seriously, and coded this workaround for people that want the news items to open in the regular window, not in a popup. Brian, this feature is for you (and everyone else). This also solves the problem some people had with the news item links not changing colors when they were read. If you select the option to disable popup news items then this problem will be fixed for you.
Disable Welcome Message: Once you've read the message on the main page once, there's no reason to read it again. By selecting this option you'll never see the message again. The News items and Reviews section will move up to the empty space. Now you don't need to scroll down to read the recent reviews.
Both of these options require the use of cookies. If you have any problems getting these new features to work, just send me an email.
