Six Feet Under Takes Award for Best Packaging

This past Monday saw the presentation of the 3rd Annual DVD Critics Awards, nicknamed "The Perfect 10." The award ceremony was part of the "DVD & Beyond" annual summit in the L.A. area, hosted by Home Media Magazine trade magazine. TVShowsOnDVD's own Gord Lacey is there this week, getting the low-down on events to come, and hosting a discussion panel (that includes the likes of Erik Estrada of CHiPs, Mick Garris from Masters of Horror, Brad Kern of Charmed, Robert Hewitt Wolfe of The Dresden Files and Karim Zreik of Jericho).

The awards are chosen by a panel of critics from newspapers, entertainment magazines and DVD Web sites, and honor the top DVDs released in 2006 based on DVD presentation criteria. The focus tends to be on movie-DVDs, of course, and the top honors there went to Warner's 14-disc Superman Ultimate Collector’s Edition box set. Other honorees included everyone from John Wayne to Captain Jack Sparrow to James Bond 007 to Robby the Robot. But of course, we're wondering where the top TV-on-DVD honors went! Here are the winners:
  • Two complete series sets tied for the best TV DVD award:
    • Fox’s M*A*S*H - The Martinis & Medicine Collection
    • Time Life/HBO Video’s Get Smart - The Complete Series
  • Six Feet Under - The Complete Series, from HBO Video, earned best packaging for its box, which uses artificial grass to mimic a grave.
