Home Media Retailing's Fourth Annual TV DVD Conference Gets New Name, Focus

October Confab to Explore All 'Future Channels'

AUGUST 14, 2006 - Home Media Retailing has revamped its annual TV DVD conference to focus on convergence and the quest by consumers to build personal entertainment networks.

The theme of the fourth annual TV DVD Conference, held Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 4 and 5, 2006, at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Century City, Calif., will be "Future Channels," which also is being incorporated into its name

"TV DVD will be the starting point for discussion rather than the sole focus of the event," said conference chair Don Rosenberg, publisher of Home Media Retailing. "Consumers love TV shows, and TV DVD was the first step in giving them control over when and where they can watch their favorite shows. At this conference, we're going to be looking beyond that, at all the TV content that's emerging on the Internet, on iTunes and elsewhere."

TV DVD 4: Future Channels will again bring together upwards of 300 studio executives, TV producers and key retailers, as well as several classic TV stars—one of whom will be honored with the third annual TV DVD Lifetime Achievement Award.

The conference is produced by Home Media Retailing in cooperation with The Hollywood Reporter, DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group and the Entertainment Merchants Association.

Highlights include panel discussions on the digital distribution of TV shows, convergence between the broadcast studio and DVD, and the growing number of video and social networking Web sites being used by networks as well as DVD suppliers to fuel viral marketing campaigns in support of new series and TV DVD releases.

Back by popular demand: sessions featuring the creative forces behind top TV shows and classic TV stars discussing the impact of TV DVD on their careers, and their legacies.

The conference also will include the third annual TV DVD Awards ceremony, in which the top TV DVD releases of the past year will be honored, based on a nationwide consumer vote. Voting will begin Sept. 1 on Home Media Retailing's Web site, www.homemediaretailing.com, and on TVShowsOnDVD.com. A panel of critics will first nominate three titles in each of the 15 categories, which include the best series of each decade, best animated series, best reality series and best bonus features.

Rosenberg notes that while the DVD business overall has flattened out, TV DVD remains on the fast track, with the latest industry projections calling for growth of up to 12% in the category, amounting to more than $2 billion in consumer spending.

TV DVD 4: Future Channels is open to the trade only. Advance registration fees are $345 for DEG and EMA members and subscribers to The Hollywood Reporter, and $395 for everyone else. Complimentary press registrations are available to credentialed media by contacting Jennifer Evans at jevans@questex.com.

Platinum sponsors of TV DVD 4: Future Channels include HBO Video, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Warner Home Video. Gold sponsors include Paramount Home Entertainment and Lionsgate.
