Site News - TVShowsOnDVD's Big Look At 2006! Even MORE Massive Amounts of TV-DVDs Planned For This Year!

Hi, News Director Dave Lambert here. Last year I took a look at the 111 television shows which we thought (as of New Year's Day) would be coming to DVD in 2005. This past Christmas I posted a recap of those predictions, and found out I was 78.38% correct. Not bad, eh? So this year I'm going to do it again!

Below you will find a list of 128 shows that, before the year is out, we expect to show up on DVD for the first time ever. That's greater than two dozen more than last year's expectations, and that's not even the whole list, really. For example, Jenna Elfman has a brand-new network show coming this season called Courting Alex (you probably saw the ads with her in the skimpy little silver outfit...yowser!); if that program is even remotely successful, then I think it's a safe bet we'll finally see Dharma & Greg make it to DVD at long last. And it may come anyway, since Thomas Gibson ("Greg") is doing well with his new show this season, Criminal Minds.

There are at least a dozen other shows that Gord and I have heard will have a good fighting chance to come to DVD for the first time in 2006, but they aren't on the list below and won't be named here because truly no decision has been made on them. When we and the studios are ready to name them, look to us for more breaking stories.

Additionally, there are shows not on the list because they have already been released on DVD before. However, many shows that fall into that category - like Beverly Hills 90210, That Girl, Over There, Cheyenne, Pink Panther Batman Beyond, C.O.P.S., Super Mario Bros. Super-Show, Inspector Gadget and even The Bugaloos - are returning to DVD (some for the first time in years) in new, better versions that will be multi-disc sets: season sets, volume sets, or complete series. Sweet!

Then there's the long-awaited return to DVD of Twin Peaks. All indications are that this WILL happen in 2006...watch for it!

Finally, there are the handful of items delayed from 2005 which appear on the list below: I Dream of Jeannie, Star Trek: The Animated Series, The Tomorrow Show, The Venture Bros. and - confirmed since our Christmas Day article - Gidget and The Flying Nun (sooner than you think!).

A lot of the items you'll see below are no surprise, and are on the release schedule to ship very soon now (Alien Nation and Gunsmoke street the day after tomorrow). On the other hand, we fully expect that you'll be surprised by several of the items on the list (are any of you Huff fans?).

Without further delay, here is THE list! Enjoy it. Gord and I hope you all had a safe and happy New Year's celebration last night, and we hope you enjoy the list and find something on it that you can't wait to own. Stay tuned for updates on these as the information leaks out.
