A big step was taken towards a simplified registration process today. There is no more verification URL that needs to be visited, and we no longer ask for a birthdate.
Instead of the verification URL, we are now randomly generating passwords for new accounts. Once the password has been used, the account is verified.
We initially asked for birthdate information because we plan on running the site for awhile and people would move from one age range to the next. While this makes sense from a technical view, personal information has become closely guarded and we understand the reluctance to share it. Every account has been updated to age-ranges using the birthdates that were supplied, and the birthdate information will be deleted from the database once we determine the change is working.
