Warner Bros has announced a very unique and exciting promotion for their TV products. On
June 8th they will start selling sampler discs containing the first episode of some of their most popular TV titles. Each disc will carry a suggested retail price of $5.99, so there's a possibility these will be discounted, perhaps to around $4.50-$5.00. But here's the better news about that price: If you buy one of these discs and then purchase the full season set, you'll receive $5 back by mail!
Here's the list of shows that will each get their own sampler disc, and the episode(s) that will be included on the disc:
Gilligan's Island - Ep #1 "Two on a Raft" & Ep #2 "Home Sweet Hut"
Kung Fu - Pilot: "The Way of the Tiger, The Sign of the Dragon"
Babylon 5 - Pilot: "The Gathering"
ER - Pilot
The Waltons - Ep #1 "The Foundling"
Gilmore Girls - Pilot
The Jetsons - "Microchip Chump"
The Flintstones - "The Flintstone Flyer"
Jonny Quest - "Escape To Questworld" (NOTE: This is not from the original series; it's the premiere episode from the second series.)

I've been saying for awhile that Warner Bros will be the studio to watch in 2004, and now I know I'm right. This allows the consumer a cheap way to sample an episode of a series they are interested in, but not sure if they should make a blind buy on the set. I'm impressed that Warner is injecting new ideas into the TV-on-DVD market, and I'm excited to see what they come up with next.
