It's been almost three weeks now since execs from Warner Home Video were the guests at a live online chat hosted by our friends at the Home Theater Forum website. That very night we passed along great news that the studio revealed at the chat: second chances, and second season sets, would be granted to fans of
Everwood,
Night Court and
Knot's Landing. Fans rejoiced!
Today trade magazine
Video Business has
posted a story written by Susanne Ault, appropriately called "TV shows get second-season chances." In it Ault talks to Rosemary Markson, Warner Home Video's Vice President of TV and Special Interest Marketing, and one of the execs who attended the chat. There, Markson explains some of the reasons behind these second chances, and we know some of it will be of interest to our readers.
However, some of it turns out to be a bit misleading. Markson is quoted as saying that "
The consumer response has always been that they believed it wasn’t until season two that Knot’s Landing really picked up. (Nicollette) Sheridan is back with Desperate Housewives, so we wanted to try to give Knot’s Landing a chance with season two." Ault also mistakenly states that Sheridan "
joined Knot’s Landing during its second season."
While it's true that Sheridan ("Edie Britt" on
Desperate Housewies) was a big part of the cast of
Knot's Landing, that actually began in the next-to-last episode of the seventh season of the series (the series ran for 14 years). The big addition to the series during the 2nd Season was, of course, Donna Mills as "Abby Fairgate" (later known by other last names, incuding "Abby Ewing," due to various marriages). Mills was THE key addition to the cast that made the show popular, and fans are itching to see "Abby" in action on DVD!
