Thanks to you, TSoD's Twitter feed has been a rousing success so far

It's been just 10 days since we went live on Twitter with a feed of TVShowsOnDVD news headlines, letting our followers there who are on the run get informed of the latest that's going on. And filled them in on a week's worth of Amazon one-day "gold box" specials, which focused on TV-DVDs. And provided links to a pair of pictures for sample menus, which we've exclusively shown there. And other goodies, too!

Along the way we've received some great comments and questions from our followers, and done our best to respond to these whereever possible. However, we ought to explain that we can't, unfortunately, respond to "requests for news" about something that there just is not any news about! That particular rule of thumb has applied to e-mailing and to our blogs (in all their forms), and it has to apply to Twitter now, too. Let's face it: if we DID have info about the next release DVD of your favorite show, or about the '60s version of Batman (or other desperately-wanted unreleased programs), we would have posted that news at the site, of course! So, no need to ask us to find news about them...we're constantly on the lookout for it already. We'll post that headline, and get it tweeted to you, just as soon as we find out about it.

A bit earlier today - on just our 10th day since getting started! - @TVShowsOnDVD passed 500 followers. And our 501st was none other than longtime site reader Casey Trowbridge, who's apparently new to Twitter (he's only been on for a few days now), but he's been a registered member here at our site for six years now. We certainly didn't plan on that, but we thank Casey for making that mark. And we thank everybody else who got us to 501; we hope we're informing and entertaining you. We've noticed at least one celebrity is following us on Twitter, and we thank Ms. Billie Piper (Secret Diary of a Call Girl, Doctor Who) for keeping an eye on us! You may have noticed that we've (not-so-subtly!) tried to let other celebs who are on Twitter know that we're here, and entice them to follow us, too.

Posting this particular news story (the one you're reading) at TVShowsOnDVD will trigger our 140th tweet so far (a nice even number!), which is being fed to Twitter via TwitterMail. Their fine service works VERY well; our hats off to the folks who put it together! Picture links we use with Twitter are provided courtesy of the really cool TwitPic service. Gord enjoys posting his personal tweets using Twitterrific, and for my own part I most often use the FireFox browser add-on TwitterFox. Knowing which of us posts using what client may help you figure out which of our "voices" you're listening to in our tweets.

You may have noticed that something's changed in the lower right corner of our news posts, too. We formerly had a "Digg" icon there, but after a year we couldn't help but notice that almost nobody had been using it (during all that time, the most-Dugg story got only 40 Diggs, and that was head and shoulders above the rest!). So we've decided to replace it with a similar-working ReTweet-based icon for now. We hope this takes off! If you're logged in to Twitter in your web browser (and if you're not, it will just ask you to log in first), it takes the story on-screen and preps it as a ReTweet for you, automatically formatting it and making sure it's within the 140 character limit. All you have to do is click Twitter's "update" button. Simple! And we'll be happy with as many re-tweets as you care to care to give us...be sure to use this to tell your own Twitter followers about what's going on over here, okay?
