Year's Best TV DVDs Honored at Gala Dinner in October

AUG. 18, 2008 - The best TV DVD titles of the past year will be honored at the fifth annual TV DVD Awards this October, at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood.

The awards will honor the best TV DVD releases that came to market between Oct. 1, 2007, and Sept. 30, 2008, focusing on the entire DVD treatment - transfer quality, sound and picture, menu design, ease of use, navigation, packaging and other elements relevant to the DVD.

Categories this year include:
  • Best 2000s Series
  • Best 1990s Series
  • Best 1970s/1980s Series
  • Best 1960s/1950s Series
  • Best Animation TV DVD
  • Best Kidvid TV DVD
  • Best Reality Show
  • Best Documentary Series
  • Best Miniseries/Made-for-TV Movie
  • Best International TV DVD
  • Best Bonus Materials
  • Best TV on Blu-ray
  • Best Complete-Series Set

A panel of judges will select nominees from among all submissions. Winners will be determined by an online consumer vote held Sept. 15-26 at TVShowsOnDVD.com and HomeMediaMagazine.com.

There is no entry fee for sponsors of the dinner; for all others, the entry fee is $150 per title, per category. There is no limit on the number of entries.

A "Best of Show" award also will be presented to the title that in the judges' opinion is the best all around from the entire pool of submitted entries. However, best of show is not a category for separate submissions.

Please return the entry form with valid contact information, along with 10 finished-product copies of each submission per award category (e.g. one title submitted in 2 different categories means 20 copies) to:

TV DVD AWARDS GUIDELINES

What are the qualifications?
To qualify as an entry, the title must be a DVD Title of TV-related content released in between Oct. 1, 2007, and Sept. 30, 2008. Do not submit Blu-ray titles in the DVD categories.

Definitions of each category:

Best Series By Decade (2000s, 1990s, etc): These categories are for single-season sets or equivalent volumes (single-disc or complete series of shows that ran only one season) of shows that originally aired during the appropriate decade. The decade is determined by the year a majority of the content aired, or if it is a complete-season, the year the season started. For example, if season 4 of a show aired from 1999-2000, it would be 1990s. Season 5, from 2000-01, would be best 2000s.

Best Animation TV DVD: A DVD of an animated program. This includes titles aimed at older fans (South Park, Simpsons, Family Guy, etc) or kidvid.

Best Kidvid DVD: A show geared toward viewers 10 years old and younger, including educational shows, animated series, etc.

Best Reality Show: A DVD of a reality or unscripted entertainment program, including competition shows, a game show or variety shows.

Best Documentary Series: A DVD of a series presenting nonfiction content, including sports programming.

Best Miniseries/Made for TV Movie: A DVD of a limited series or standalone movie made for television. This includes DTV titles not necessarily made for TV, but based on or tied into television shows.

Best Bonus Materials: Extras such as interviews, featurettes, deleted scenes, commentaries, previews, interactivity, etc. Blu-ray titles are eligible for this category.

Best International TV DVD: A DVD set of a show that was not originally produced by an American production company.

Best TV on Blu-ray: TV content released on Blu-ray Disc.

Best Complete-Series Set: A DVD boxed set containing the complete run of a series.

Award Submission Deadline: Sept. 10, 2008.

For questions about the appropriate category for a DVD title, please contact John Latchem at jlatchem@questex.com or 714/338-6755.
