The fans have spoken! After asking fans via Facebook Polls, their hand-picked episodes have been compiled into these collections. Consider this the recommended "fans list" that everyone will enjoy!
A few weeks ago, at the beginning of this month, regular reader Brad Vimalted (thanks!) sent us the heads-up that CBS Home Entertainment's fan page at Facebook was holding
a poll asking fans which
Honeymooners episodes they love most. Brad posted a comment there, guessing that a new "best-of" DVD was in the works. He even guessed at a name, "
Fan Favorites." Brad's a pretty great guesser, as it turns out! Today CBS DVD formally announced
The Honeymooners - Fan Favorites: The Best Of, a single-disc DVD with 8 episodes picked via the poll.
But Jackie "The Great One" Gleason isn't alone! CBS DVD also announced the identical sort of releases of "
Fan Favorites: The Best Of" for six other legendary shows:
Happy Days, Cheers, Frasier, The Odd Couple, Hogan's Heroes and
MacGyver! Each disc offers roughly 200 minutes of fan-chosen episodes...8 of 'em for each show except
MacGyver, which is longer per installment so that disc only sports 5 episodes. Each of these is presented in the original full-screen video, with English audio (may be mono or stereo, as appropriate) and English subtitles. All 7 of these titles will be available on
March 6th.
Pricing isn't available yet, but we expect these to be budget-priced items available mainly at cashwraps for casual fans, rather than the passionate TV-DVD collectors. Nor were we able to find episode lists (we're wondering - just like we know YOU are! - if
Happy Days, in particular, will have episodes which are new-to-DVD). Here's a look at the package art; the smaller images are not finalized yet and could be subject to change. Stay tuned for updates, if we can find any!
