Fans have been asking us - no big shock here! - when we'll see the next DVD release of
The Simpsons. Of course we won't know that for sure until Fox Home Entertainment announces
The Complete 14th Season (which we assume will also be made for Blu-ray Disc format, since the 13th Season set was put out that way). However, since most releases of
The Simpsons have come out in August, we've pretty much assumed that this is when the next set will hit stores.
Now, however, we have some tentative confirmation of that assumption. Longtime
Simpsons producer, director and artist David Silverman
tweeted about this late last month, and we've overlooked that Twitter post until one of our readers, "Cyrus," alerted us to it today. There Silverman said: "
Simpsons season 14 DVD set will be released late this summer."
It's also worth noting that last October, none other than "Weird" Al Yankovic tweeted about
The Simpsons - The Complete 14th Season DVD set as well (Yankovic voiced himself in the episode "Three Gays of the Condo" that season). No, he didn't have release date information. Rather, he had
posted a TwitPic of himself (he's at the stand labeled "6," with his hand raised) "
doing commentary for The Simpsons Season 14 DVD!" Sweet to know that he's involved in the extras. Our thanks to reader Mike deCourcy for the heads-up about that! It's still probably 2 or 3 months before Fox Home Entertainment makes the announcement and shares a release date, cover art or otherwise (note that there's a "season fourteen" image that is find-able on Amazon, but the picture is fan-uploaded and so it's not anywhere near official...nor is Amazon taking pre-orders at this time).
Stay tuned and we'll keep you updated as further developments occur!
