In 2004, the Bravo cable channel ran a series called
Significant Others (NOT to be confused with the '98 Fox series of the same name, which is
already on DVD). The Bravo series ran a total of 12 episodes, half in the March/April timeframe and half in December. In case you missed it, here is Bravo's description of the show concept:
Significant Others is a comedy about men and women in (and outside of) couples therapy, a hysterically honest look at the rewards - and costs - that come with being in a committed relationship. More real than traditional comedies and more imaginative than reality shows, this rule-breaking series features a talented ensemble of improvisational actors and comedians who, quite literally, script themselves:
- Chelsea & James married after a torrid and all-too-short courtship. Now that they've tied the knot, they'll have to find out who exactly this person really is that they're knotted to.
- Ethan & Eleanor are a pair of twenty-somethings who have grown older without quite growing up. But for this couple, a growth spurt may be coming sooner than they think.
- Connie & Bill are barely communicating. Ever since Bill lost his job, something has been missing from their marriage — but missing things often turn up in unexpected places.
- Alex & Devon are a successful couple trying to be good parents to son Rodney. That is, when they aren't too busy arguing with each other, their maid Carlotta, or most everyone else.
The folks at Shout! Factory have taken this short-lived series under wing, and plan to release
Significant Others - The Complete Series on a 3-DVD set in 2006. When? It will probably come as no surprise, given the "relationships" nature of this show, that the package ships on Valentine's Day,
February 14th. The studio hasn't officially announced it yet; our information comes from Amazon.com, where the retailer has it
available to pre-order at a $29.98 price. They also show this cover art:
