As a special treat for
Shogun fans today, we have a new picture that shows off the Disc art, a 3-D view of the box, but best-of-all an image of the unfolded box, whose background of a Japanese sword is very impressive looking:
Also, we would like to follow up on something mentioned in
our previous Shogun news: confusion over the SRP. In that article, at a bullet point mentioning the suggested retail price, we said, "
List: $99.99 (note that DVDEmpire.com lists an SRP of just $69.99 instead; we're not sure which one is correct)".
As other online retailers have added listings for
Shogun, we see various other list prices named. What's the confusion? The answer seems to be that Paramount (as they've previously done with season sets of other TV product like
Star Trek: The Next Generation) is not setting a solid list price. They are letting each retailer decide how to calculate their "shelf price" individually. And, because retailers like to demonstrate to their customers that they are giving a bargain, each chain is making up an SRP price that seems right to them.
The best consensus seems to be $79.99...so we'll play along with that. But shop around and find your best price. For all the information on the release, including links to e-tailers,
