From 1958 to 1961, NBC's lineup included
Shirley Temple's Storybook, a show in which Temple, by then in her 30's, would host and narrate and act in classic fairytale stories that were the main basis for the show. But the show also did more, including showing off very early films in Temple's career. Her kids participated as well, along with stars like Claire Bloom, Charlton Heston, June Lockhart, E.G. Marshall, Jonathan Harris, Pernell Roberts, Boris Karloff, Sebastian Cabot, Jack Albertson, Billy Barty, Lorne Greene, Agnes Moorehead, Eli Wallach, Jonathan Winters, Mel Blanc, Jackie Coogan, Imogene Coca, Frankie Avalon, Alice Pearce, Carroll O'Connor, Cloris Leachman, Robert Culp, Martin Landau, Gloria Vanderbilt, Angela Cartwright, Wally Cox, Robert Morse, Nancy Kulp, Ray Walston, Claude Akins, and lots more!
Temple has been selling this show on DVD
at her website, ShirleyTemple.com, for a while now. But thanks to sharp-eyed reader Suzanne Ferree, we can see that Genius Entertainment is now preparing to make these available at retail outlets as well! This coming Tuesday,
April 25th, you can get the 7-DVD Collection, a box set pictured below. Just below that is a picture of some of the individual discs, which will be avaialble for under $10 in June.
Many of these are available for pre-order at Amazon.com right now. Here's a list of them:
