The Shield - Season One News!

Charles Amadori sent us some exciting news about "The Shield" coming to DVD. This is the text from a post made on the FX message boards by the show's creator, Shaw Ryan:

At this time, I'm also proud to announce that Fox Television Studios and Columbia Tri-Star {our production studios on the show) with the cooperation of FX have officially begun moving forward on the production of a DVD collection of all 13 episodes of Season 1 of "The Shield". I'm also happy to announce that this will not merely be a transfer of episodes onto disc, but will be jammed packed full of juicy extras. The current plan is to have an audio commentary track for each and every one of the 13 episodes, featuring different combinations of actors, writers, directors and crew members on each show. My plan is to give people a straight shooting, no-holds-barred look at the making of the show.

There will also be a number of deleted scenes for people to see. Something that many of you may not know is that we intentionally shoot long scripts and try like hell to jam everything into a single episode. Often, however, I'm forced to leave some nice scenes on the cutting room floor, solely for time purposes. This DVD will allow us to show you these scenese along with explainations of why they weren't included in the episode. I also have some surprises in sore that I can't reveal at this time since certain things need to be cleared first.

I'm especially excited about the commentary tracks. Every actor I've talked to so far (7 out of our 8 series regulars) has agreed to participate as well as directors Scott Brazil, Gary Fleder and Guy Ferland. I've got a call in to Clark Johnson, but since he got hired to direct the movie adaption of "SWAT", that slippery bastard has been impossible to get ahold of. Rest assured I will have his ass seated next to me for these commentaries as well.

The DVD is currently being prepped for a January release that would coincide with the launch of Season 2. I'm also trying to get the powers that be to approve a CD release of some of the great songs we used this season. If any of you would be interested in that, I encourage you to post on this board. Knowing that there's a demand for a CD would certainly help nudge the decision makers.

Again, thank you for all your support and fanaticism. The show is a joy to work on and it's nice to know that you get pleasure out of it. Everyone have a safe 4th of July Weekend.
