Recently we
broke the news that DVD rights to
The Shield were moving from Fox Home Entertainment over to Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. While we're still waiting on word about the upcoming sixth season on disc, this morning Sony officially announced their DVD re-releases of the first five season sets!
Fox released the first two seasons in fold-out cardboard "digipak" type of boxes, and the other seasons in slim "thinpak" disc cases which each held a single disc per thin plastic case. Sony is keeping all the outer box art and disc content (including extras) as-is, but is putting their new releases into double-thinpaks to make them even slimmer than before! Also slimming down a tad is the price: Fox's SRP on these was mostly $59.95, but Sony is putting their new versions out at a $49.95 list price (and kidding around on their marketing campaign that "these cops can be bought for the right price!").
All of these new versions will be out on
March 25th, according to
listings at Amazon which were added late last week. Amazon hasn't turned on pre-orders at those listings just yet, but keep an eye on them because we're sure they'll be a nice discount there when they become active.
Stay tuned, because Sony is informing retailers that these re-releases of the first five seasons are timed to tie in with their soon-to-be-announced DVD debut of
The Shield - Season 6. We'll have details on that when the studio makes them available!
