Amazon has had a pre-order listing (see button link below) since March for
The Shield - Season 6 on DVD, even though the title hadn't been announced yet by Sony (who in 2008 took over this program's home video rights from Fox). At the end of March, we
reported that the Amazon listing had been updated to show a September 2nd ship date for the set, but since then the online retailer has removed that date.
This morning Sony Picture Home Entertainment has - at last! - formally announced this title, and given a new (even earlier) release date for
The Shield - Season 6 on DVD. The official release date is
August 26th, for a 4-disc set which will cost $59.95 SRP. That's ten dollars more than the list price currently shown at Amazon's pre-order listing, by the way, so we wonder if the big e-tailer will honor the $36.99 discounted cost that they have been displaying for a while?
Running time for this 10-episode set is officially given as 498 minutes, with anamorphic widescreen video and audio in English Dolby and Spanish Dolby. Subtitles are English, French, Portuguese and Spanish, and it's also closed captioned for the hearing impaired. Bonus materials announced are:
- Saturn's Sons
- Audio Commentary on Select Episodes
- Deleted Scenes
- Two Directors
- Full Circle: Franke Potente
The official announcement didn't include separate package art, but it did have attached to it an old trade ad from last February, which had a cover art picture for
The Shield - Season 6 that we
showed off at the time. However, that was back when Sony was thinking about an April release of this set, so the packaging design could have changed by now. In case it hasn't, though, here's another look at it below the new studio description of this release:
Another season of this gritty, hard-hitting cop drama comes to DVD! Continuing directly after season 5, Vic and the Strike Team are distraught over Lem's death. Kavanaugh considers planting evidence to frame Vic for Lem's murder while Vic believes Guardo is the guilty party. Dutch's robbery/homicide investigation leads him to a ruthless meth ring. Trying to save his job, Vic trains his replacement as they investigate a gang war. An unexpected suspect turns up in a rape/mutilation investigation, and the team is under pressure to conceal a city official's daughter's drug addiction after she turns up dead. Vic tries to save his job by any means, and Shane aligns himself with an Armenian mob to prevent vengeful violence. Claudette learns that the Barn could be shut down if no improvements are made by the time quarterly crime statistics are released.
