DVD distributors Infinity Entertainment and program owners Falcon Picture Group have been having an on-again, off-again set of release plans for
Sergeant Preston of the Yukon - The Complete Collection on DVD. When we
reported almost a year ago that the two companies had joined forces, this was one of the first planned items and was targeted to come out in late July. Then it was pushed back to September, then October, then disappeared from the schedule for a bit.
When it returned in January, it was to say there would be a mid-June release at long last, on a 13-disc set. Then there was talk that they might be switching gears and getting away from the "complete series" concept, and moving to volume releases, or else go back to season sets - previously released through certain exclusive online retailers related to Infinity - and go with a general retail release of those season sets instead. A few days ago we talked with Infinity to get the latest status on this item.
They tell us that, at the current time,
Sergeant Preston of the Yukon - The Complete Collection is indeed off of the release schedule. No decision has apparently been made so far about when, or even if, this or any other
Sergeant Preston titles would be put on Infinity's schedule. However, other DVD makers are still
releasing titles for this show (using the episodes available to them via the public domain route).
Keep in mind, though, that Infinity is continuing to work with Falcon to evaluate whether there is indeed enough customer demand for a "complete collection" release of the title, so there may still be some hope for it in the future. Stay tuned!
