Yesterday (11/20) we
posted a news story concerning the free bonus discs that Best Buy and Circuit City are planning to give away, starting tomorrow, with the purchase of the new
Seinfeld DVD releases this week. We have a rather important correction to make in regard to the Best Buy offer. Based on the information
at BestBuy.com's listing for the Bonus Disc, we told our readers that this would be a DVD. Why wouldn't we? The title says "
Seinfeld: 5 & 6 Seasons Bonus Pack - DVD." Every other reference to the item in Best Buy's marketing material simply called it a "bonus disc."
But Russell Hammond is here to set us all straight. Russell has been a part of the gang over at TheDigitalBits.com for a while, and recently he's struck out to make his own website called DVDFanBoy.com. The goal at DVDFanBoy is to put together a complete list of all of these bonus discs and other items (lithographs, keychains, calendars, etc.) that have been given away as some sort of special offer since the consumer launch of DVD back in 1997. It's a big task, and if you haven't checked out his site yet, then go check it out.
Russell wrote to us a little while ago today after seeing our
Seinfeld bonus disc story. And he's got a big heads-up for us:
the Best Buy Bonus Disc is NOT a DVD! It is a CD. How can Russel be so sure? If you check out
his list of the current week's giveaways, and scroll down to the 5th item, you'll see that he's managed to obtain a bigger scan of the bonus disc than we have. A quick glance at it will tell the story: it says "Exclusive CD" right there on the label.
We humbly apologize to our readers if we got your hopes up, a we regret that we were misled by Best Buy's listing for the bonus disc. We surely wanted to let everybody know as soon as we could, though, in case it influences your buying decision for tomorrow. There will be a ton of new things coming out besides
Seinfeld, so good luck and good hunting!
