The holidays are coming, and fans know that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment won't miss out on an opportunity to bring out more
Seinfeld for the gift-giving season of Festivus. Nor is the studio letting them down, as they prepare this coming Monday to announce the 5th and 6th Season DVD sets, both separately and as a gift set complete with bonus items.
Variety, TV Guide, and other periodicals are reporting on this today, so we are breaking our silence as well and letting our readers in on the info.
Seinfeld - Season 5 will arrive on
November 22nd in a 4-DVD set. On the same day, Sony will also release
Seinfeld - Season 6 as a separate 4-DVD package. Each will come with the usual sort of bonus features: "Notes About Nothing", "Inside Looks" (Episode Specific Mini Making-of Documentaries), "In the Vault" (Deleted Scenes), "Not That There's Anything Wrong With That" (Bloopers), and "Yada Yada Yada" (Commentary Tracks).
Variety also reports that there will additionally be "Sein-imation" scenes, which they describe as "classic
Seinfeld scenes reimagined for animation using original cast voices". We're sure that's not the end of the on-disc bonus material, either; we're just waiting for Sony's official information.
But wait, there's more! Just like they did with with 2004's
"Re-Gift Set", Sony plans to provide a "bundle package" of the 5th and 6th Seasons together. This will not only come with both 4-DVD sets (8 discs altogether), but you'll get more cool nick-nacks in the gift set box. One is another handwritten script reproduction, this time of the 4th Season double-length finale episode "The Pilot" (so what if the 4th season DVDs have already been on the market since May?). Also enclosed in there is your very own miniature "Puffy Shirt", which Jerry wears in the second episode of the fifth season when he's interviewed on television by Bryant Gumbel.
Other guest stars you won't want to miss during these two seasons include Marlee Matlin, Rudolph W. Giuliani, Jennifer Coolidge, Al Roker, Jami Gertz, Courtney Cox, Judge Reinhold, Kathie Lee Gifford, Regis Philbin, French Stewart, Gail Strickland, Michelle Forbes, Jon Lovitz, Richard Herd, Mel Tormé, Apollo Dukakis, Patrick Warburton, Debra Jo Rupp, and the divine Bette Midler.
The 2-season bundle set, like the separate season sets, will be available on
November 22nd. Pricing has not been announced for these yet, but we should have it for you early next week. Nor has Sony finalized the packaging artwork yet, but our retail sources have seen the below mock-ups for the individual seasons, so we decided to share them with you. Stay tuned for updates to that, plus additional information just as soon as the studio can provide it.
