Seinfeld getting a "Complete Series" release on DVD!
Our old friend Thomas K. Arnold posted the story yesterday evening, with the scoop that
November 6th is the street date Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is preparing to announce for
Seinfeld - Season 9. That date is two weeks earlier than the date we "guesstimated" back in May, when we first
had the story about the November release, and its contents on 4 DVDs.
Now T.K. reveals that the same release date -
November 6th also sees the release of
Seinfeld - The Complete Series, a 32-DVD premium set with every episode (the story puts that count at 180), and all the bonus features previously seen on the individual season set releases.
But wait, there's more! Since this is one of around twenty "premium, entire-series" TV-on-DVD packages coming out for the end of this year, how does Sony intend to make this one stand out from the crowd during the busy holiday season rush? T.K.'s article explains:
The highlight: a 226-page coffee-table book filled with photos, quotes, trivia and personal reflections from star Jerry Seinfeld.
"When the show wrapped, the book, which had taken years to assemble, was privately shared with only the cast and crew," said Marc Rashba, vp marketing at Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. "When we were launching the TV-DVD series sets five years ago, we loved it so much, but we took a look, and it was ridiculously expensive to put it out. Now, we reshaped and redesigned it, and we were able to make it happen. It's the first time the public will get to see it."
The book comes with a bonus DVD featuring a first-ever cast reunion round-table discussion with Seinfeld, creator Larry David and co-stars Jason Alexander, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Michael Richards. The hourlong discussion finds the cast and David together again on the ninth anniversary of the series finale.
"Wow" doesn't begin to describe that! How much is this going to run you? The suggested list price is $283.95, according to

Finally, the article also reveals a previously-unknown extra for the 9th season, available both in the "Complete Series" package and in the "Season 9" set by itself: do you recall the final-season episode that played in reverse, "The Betrayal," which told the end of the story, and then wound back to the beginning? One of the extras for the ninth season is a special restructured version of that episode, but shown going forward. So, for the first time, you get to see the alternate view of that tale, in proper chronological order. But we recommend you first watch the episode as it originally aired, so you can get the best possible enjoyment out of it!
Sony has not released box art yet for either the 9th Season, or for the Complete Series collection. Stay tuned, though and we'll bring it to you just as soon as it is available!
