SeaQuest DSV is the futuristic show about the submersible (that the show is named after) which patrols the area and keeps the peace on the ocean floor, which the United Earth Oceans Organization has colonized. It first aired in 1993, was executive produced by Steven Spielberg, and starred Roy Scheider (
Jaws), Stephanie Beacham (
The Colbys), Stacy Haiduk (
Superboy), and Jonathan Brandis (
The NeverEnding Story II).
Many, MANY of our readers already know all of this about the program: this show is currently the 4th most popular unreleased-on-DVD series in the TVShowsOnDVD voting. I'm among those waiting for the show to come to home video: when it first aired, I never managed to catch the show, because it aired opposite one of my favorites:
Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. I'll be glad when I finally get the chance to sit down and watch this series I've heard so much about!
The hour-long program had 23 episodes in the first season, including the pilot. Fans have been wondering when to expect it on DVD. Well, a little bird has told us that we can expect
SeaQuest DSV - The Complete 1st Season to arrive on DVD the same day as the
just-announced-today Leave It To Beaver set:
November 22nd. That date is subject to change, of course, especially since this information did not come to us directly from the studio. However, we know that the show IS coming to DVD (unless something catastrophic happens). With this morning's
Leave It To Beaver announcement now in hand, we expect the formal
SeaQuest DSV announcement to happen at any time.

UPDATE - Universal Studios has just contacted us to let us know that the information supplied to retailers (our little bird) has changed and the title is not coming out in 2005. Sorry for passing on bad info! It still seems to be coming to DVD, however...just not nearly as soon as our source had informed us (but then, DVD scheduling is constantly changing quite a bit prior to a formal announcement).
