It's been 2 years since Universal Studios Home Entertainment
announced the first season DVD release of
Seaquest DSV. Then, as now, this is one of the most wanted programs voting-wise among registered members of TVShowsOnDVD, and fans have been anxiously awaiting news about releases of the 2nd and 3rd seasons. Now we have an official announcement this morning for
SeaQuest DSV - Season 2!
As you know, the second season saw a lot of changes for the show: cast members were shuffled as Royce D. Applegate ("Chief Crocker"), Stephanie Beacham ("Dr. Westphalen") and Stacy Haiduk ("Lt. Cmdr. Hitchcock") left the show permanently, and John D'Aquino ("Lt. Krieg") also left excepting for one further appearance in the third season. New cast members included Edward Kerr ("Lt. Brody"), Kathy Evison ("Lt. Henderson "), Rosalind Allen ("Dr. Smith"), Michael DeLuise ("Seaman Piccolo") and Peter DeLuise ("Dagwood," after guest-starring as a different character in a first season episode). Real-life Oceanographer Robert Ballard (finder of the
Titanic and other shipwrecks) no longer hosted the trivia spots at the end of the show, and the show's writing shifted to more fantastical-based storylines while the home base of the submarine moved to the fictional Florida city of New Cape Quest. Guest stars this season joining Roy Scheider on the
SeaQuest included Kent McCord, Richard Herd and Mark Hamill.
Universal will release all 21 episodes (or "22," if you count the double-length season premier twice) on 8 DVDs running 1016 minutes. Cost is $59.98 SRP, and the release is shown to be scheduled for New Year's Day,
January 1, 2008. All discs are single-sided. Video is the original 1.33:1 Full Frame, audio is English Dolby Digital 2.0 and there are English subtitles on board as well. Box art and info about extras (if any) are not released just yet; stay tuned for updates.
