All three seasons of
Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, the original animated "whodunit?" series, have already been
released on DVD in multi-disc sets. Now Warner Home Video will release these classic cartoons in a different way: as single-disc Volume releases, in order and with a few episodes at a time.
The first release will be on
January 27th, with
Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! - Season 1, Volume 1: A Monster Catch. For $14.97 SRP you'll get the first 4 episodes of the show: "What a Night for a Knight," "Hassle in the Castle," "A Clue for Scooby-Doo" and "Mine Your Own Business." Video is full screen, and audio is in stereo with both English and French. Subtitles are also in English and French. Running time is 88 minutes. No extras were listed in the announcement information.
Ironically, this release is very similar to the very first
Scooby-Doo DVD release ever, the single-disc
Scooby-Doo's Original Mysteries, which came out in 2000. That item had the first five episodes (one more cartoon than this upcoming title), plus a few extras. That item is actually still in print and available, so it might be a better choice. However, it would kind-of mess up the continuity between the upcoming release and the future volumes. Right now we've had word that Warner's planned up through at least
Scooby-Doo Where Are You? - Season 1, Volume 3. Here's the package art for
