The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour seems to be the next of the many incarnations of Scooby-Doo to come to DVD, as reported by comic book writer, TV writer (and
Garfield & Friends producer), and cartoon historian Mark Evanier at
his blog the other day. Here's a quote:
And speaking of DVD collections of old Hanna-Barbera cartoons, as I just was, last week I was interviewed on camera for a forthcoming collection of The Scooby Doo-Dynomutt Hour. Also interrogated were Fred Silverman, Iwao Takamoto, Joe Ruby and Ken Spears, and several of the original voices, including Gary Owens. I have no idea when this one will be out...but the folks doing the "extras" are really doing a thorough job.
Very nice to know! This version of Scooby's cartoon ran for about a year, from Fall 1976 to Fall 1977 (including many reruns, of course). According to some internet resources, there were 16 (or 24, depending on which website you believe) Scooby shorts made new for this hour-long show, and 16 shorts starring Dynomutt and his heroic human partner The Blue Falcon (voiced by Gary Owens). For most of the show's run, there were 2 Scooby installments per hour vs. 1 for Dynomutt. Fans of Scooby- Doo's slow-witted cousin Scooby-Dum will want to snap up this set, as he's frequently seen in it (but no Scrappy-Doo, who thankfully had not come along yet). Stay tuned and we'll bring you more information about this just as soon as we can!
