Scooby's All-Stars - '13 Spooky Tales Around The World' Draws From 6 Scooby Shows

2-DVD set of cartoons from the '70s and '80s will be available on May 15th

Nobody vacations like Scooby-Doo and the gang. This is arm-scare travel at its very best! And with 13 hair-raising vacation destinations on two DVDs, that's hours of family fun. Get ready to get shipwrecked in the Bermuda Triangle with scary skeleton scuba divers and chased through the canals of Venice by the Ghostly Gondolier, who even kidnaps Daphne! Hop aboard a haunted Aztec barge, but not before Scooby-Doo wows a vengeful god with his best Mexican hat dance - to say nothing of his airplane cha-cha over the headhunter-happy jungles of Brazil. Along the way you can bet the Mystery Inc. gang will get to the bottom of each mystery with plenty of "zoinks!" (the same in every language), plenty of hijinks, and a whole lot of international cuisine - leaning tower of pizza anyone?
Warner Home Video has announced a 2-DVD release titled "Scooby-Doo! 13 Spooky Tales Around The World," coming to a store near you on May 15th. These 13 episodes (some may argue "12" is the right number, as one of the stories is a two-parter) are taken from 6 different Scooby programs that aired on ABC from 1976 to 1984:
  • Disc 1
    1. The Fiesta Host is an Aztec Ghost (1976's The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour)
    2. The Harum Scarum Sanitorium (1976's The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour)
    3. The Spirits of '76 (1976's The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour)
    4. Creepy Tangle in the Bermuda Triangle (1978's Scooby's All-Stars)
    5. To Switch a Witch (1978's Scooby's All-Stars)
    6. A Menace in Venice (1978's Scooby's All-Stars)

  • Disc 2
    1. Shiver and Shake, That Demon's A Snake (1979's Scooby and Scrappy-Doo)
    2. Lock the Door, It's A Minotaur (1979's Scooby and Scrappy-Doo)
    3. The Ozark Witch Switch (1977's Scooby's All-Star Laff-A Lympics)
    4. Jeepers, It's the Jaguaro! (1978's Scooby's All-Stars)
    5. Moonlight Madness (1980's The Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Hour)
    6. Ghosts of the Ancient Astronauts, Part I (1984's The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries)
    7. Ghosts of the Ancient Astronauts, Part II (1984's The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries)
The cost for this collection is $19.98 SRP, and it includes digital copies of the featured episodes via the "Ultraviolet" instant streaming process. A small number of these episodes appear to be new-to-DVD, but most of them have been seen on disc before. So it's clear that Warner is aiming this title at the casual fan, rather than the passionate Scooby collector...this release may not be for you. What the passionate fans sometimes have a difficult time accepting is that for kid-aimed shows such as Scooby, the low-cost casual "best-of" releases (like this one) sell WAY better than the more organized "collectible" titles do, and that retailers prefer the studios to make this sort of set rather than the higher-end packages. Hopefully we bigger Scooby-Doo fans (I'm certainly included in that group!) will get all of the unreleased episodes from every program at some point (although I have my doubts where the remaining episodes of The New Scooby-Doo Movies are concerned, due to licensing issues which may be insurmountable). If we ever get word along those lines, we'll certainly let you know! For now, here's the packaging for Scooby-Doo! 13 Spooky Tales Around The World:
