The Hollywood Reporter has
spilled the beans: NBC-Universal and Starbucks Entertainment have teamed up to bring a new DVD release,
Saturday Night Live - The Best of '06/'07, exclusively to Starbucks coffeehouses. The information given says that this will be available to buy on
August 28th, but no pricing was given. The content was described as drawing "
from the 2006-2007 season, highlighting the comedic talents of Amy Poehler, Seth Meyers and Darrell Hammond...The DVD set also will feature never-before-seen bonus material such as dress-rehearsal footage and commentary by the cast as well as a bonus "30 Rock" DVD, which features deleted scenes from the NBC sitcom's first season."

However, we understand that
Saturday Night Live - The Best of '06/'07 will be distributed in Canada by Maple Pictures, with a release date of
September 11th. Maple has kindly provided us with lots of details for this release, and the cover art as well, which you can see to the right. Maple will sell this for CA$19.95 SRP, and shows a running time of 84 minutes. Look for guest hosts and guest stars to include Alec Baldwin, Dane Cook, Jake Gyllenhaal, Hugh Laurie, Matthew Fox, Ludacris, former
SNL cast member Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Super Bowl Champion Peyton Manning ("in a very special public service announcement").
Some of the sketches you'll see on this release includes "A-Holes" with Jason Sudeikis and Kristen Wiig, Darrell Hammond’s impression of Donald Trump, Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph in "Bronx Beat", and the
SNL Digital Short "Dick in a Box," featuring Andy Samberg and Justin Timberlake.
Extras on this set, produced by Broadway Video, include Audio Commentary from the
SNL cast and writers, 2 Never-Before-Seen sketches that were cut after dress rehearsal, and the funniest outtakes from Weekend Update with co-anchors Seth Meyers and Amy Poehler. Maple was careful to alert us that the content is not necessarily final, and that any of the above is subject to change. Still, it sounds great for the price!
As
The Hollywood Reporter notes, "
the venture marks the first time NBC Universal Television Distribution has created an exclusive DVD release for a retailer." Just as a side thought here, it occurs to me that the Target around the corner from me has a Starbucks inside of it, and that there are quite a number like that around the country. So I have to wonder what the big retail chain that loves to get their own Target-exclusive DVD releases will think about the chain they are landlording over getting a sweet DVD exclusive like this. Hmmm...
