A return to 13 Bannerman Road finds Sarah Jane, along with her son Luke, and teenagers Rani and Clyde, with more earth-visiting aliens to investigate. These exciting new adventures include the return of their most fearsome enemy yet - the Judoon. They also encounter a lonely telepathic alien whose powers grow out of control, and explore unexplained phenomena in a haunted house. A priceless painting comes to life, and a pair of Slitheen, Leef and Tree Blathereen, attempt to overrun Earth with Rakweed. And, as Sarah Jane enjoys the happiest day of her life, she is joined by two old companions: her favorite robot dog and a certain time-traveler of great renown.
Two weeks ago we
told you to expect an "early 2011" release in North America for
The Sarah Jane Adventures - The Complete 3rd Season on DVD. Today the BBC and distributor Warner Home Video made it official, announcing that they've scheduled a 2-disc set to be available on
January 4th (the first Tuesday of the new year!). This will be the USA debut for these 12 episodes:
- Episodes 1-2 Prisoner of the Judoon
- Episodes 3-4 The Mad Woman in the Attic
- Episodes 5-6 The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith
- Episodes 7-8 The Eternity Trap
- Episodes 9-10 Mona Lisa's Revenge
- Episodes 11-12 The Gift
As you'll see on the box art shown below, "The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith" guest-stars David Tennant as the 10th Doctor, in the final scenes he shot for that role. K9 is present as well, of course! Also included as an extra is an Audio Clip from the
Sarah Jane Adventures audio book
The White Wolf. We can't wait!
And, speaking of "not waiting," word has gotten around the 'net earlier this week (
here,
here and
here, for example) that beginning in January, classic releases of
Doctor Who will be "synced up" in the UK (Region 2), Australia (Region 4) and the USA/Canada (Region 1). So that releases will happen during the same week in all of these areas, much like they already do for the 2005
Doctor Who series. Will that apply to other BBC releases, such as
The Sarah Jane Adventures, as well? We've asked this question to our contact at the studio; we're trying to get an answer. Stay tuned!
UPDATE: The official answer we were provided to our question was "
It is too soon to discuss future seasons of these shows." Which to us sounds like a way of saying "it hasn't been decided yet." So, for now, it looks like the only commitment to "synched" releases of BBC titles across multiple regions will apply to
Doctor Who.
