A few weeks ago we brought you the Shout! Factory
press release announcing their upcoming title,
Route 66 - The Complete Series on DVD. This item, scheduled for
April 22nd at Shout!'s online store and
May 22nd everywhere else, contains all 4 seasons of the show, re-produced for DVD from scratch. One of Shout!'s goals of doing that was to eliminate the various issues which fans had previously complained about in the old DVD releases that covered the first three seasons of the classic show. Another goal was to bring you some brand-new bonus content in this 24-DVD box set, and now the studio has sent us a finalized list of what all those extras will be:
- Rare 1990 William S. Paley Television Festival panel - Q&A style feature focusing on Route 66 with the following participants: Marion Dougherty (casting director), Arthur Hiller (director), Elliot Silverstein (director), George Maharis ("Buz Murdock"), Herbert B. Leonard (writer/producer)
- Vintage commercials
- SPECIAL "VALUE ADD" DVD Great Cars: Corvette - Returning from World War II, many soldiers told stories of the loves they'd left behind. or some, it was a mechanical sweetheart - the European sports car. So, the nation was primed for the debut of the 1953 Corvette, a fiberglass two-seater that was the first mass-produced American sports car. The first car was more show than go, but over the years Corvette has evolved from a cute-looking roadster to the menacing Sting Ray, and now to one of the world's sleekest, sexiest and fastest high-tech sports cars.
Despite the work put into this title, aimed squarely at the show's very passionate fans, we've had a lot of our readers ask whether or not Shout! Factory intends to separately release the show's 4th Season on its own (as they already own the first three seasons, and apparently don't mind the issues that other fans have complained about). We asked the studio about this, and their response is simply that no separate
Season 4 DVD set has been announced at this time. However, in my mind it makes sense that this will probably happen sooner or later, since the discs for that season are already mastered for the big box, and just need to be made and packaged separately. But then, if Shout!! DOES put out individual season sets, should they only do
S4 along, or do they start with
S1 and do them all (since their versions will be better), or what? And, would retail chain stores want to carry the old sets all over again, or would they have to be a "Shout! Select" offering? These aren't simple questions, so we all have to give the studio time to figure these things out. If you can't wait, that
Complete Series set will be there as an option, of course. In the meantime, stay tuned and we'll let you know if we hear anything further.
