Starz Home Entertainment, formerly known as Anchor Bay, has formally announced
Roseanne - The Complete 8th Season on DVD for release (as we
reported already) on
August 7th. Here's the official description:
Re-live the classic '95/'96 season that featured Roseanne's baby shower, DJ's Thanksgiving pageant, Jackie's Internet addiction, two different Becky's, the arrival of Jerry Garcia Conner, Darlene's wedding and Dan's heart attack. It was the award-winning year of loose meat sandwiches, old love letters, ballroom dance lessons, crashing a Bar Mitzvah, the '50s sitcom tribute, Ouija board horrors, gay nuptials, supermarket samples, the trip to Disney World and much, much more.
"Two different Becky's"? Yeah...at the beginning of the 8th season, the original "Becky Conner," actress Alicia "Lecy" Goranson, returned to the show believing she had worked out her scheduling difficulties with university education at prestigious Vassar College. As the season wore on, though, things got to be difficult again, so Sarah Chalke (who's on
Scrubs these days, as the luscious Dr. Reid) returned to the role in the two-part Disney World episode, and also for Darlene's wedding. Lecy would finish out the season appearing as "Becky" for the last time, and in the 9th and final season Chalke took over the role permanently to wrap things up.
The 4-DVD set contians 25 episodes for 575 minutes. Also look for video commentaries, plus a brand-new candid interview with Roseanne. Guest stars this year included the Cast of Stomp, Pat Harrington Jr., Shecky Greene, Jenna Elfman, Floyd 'Red Crow' Westerman, Colleen Camp, Mariel Hemingway, June Lockhart, Milton Berle, James Pickens Jr., Eric Dane (
Grey's Anatomy's "McSteamy" plays a bellhop at Disney World!), and Tony Curtis. SRP is $39.97, but you can
pre-order it at Amazon for $27.99.
Speaking of Amazon, we appreciate all the readers who've been e-mailing us during the past 24 hours to tell us that there's front cover art there. However, we've got 3-D box art for you below, and below that is the rear cover art, too! We, uh, KNOW it's the back cover because it says (wait for it) "back cover" on it! Heh, that's because it's cropped out by us from a mock-up that will go to the box printers, and the mock-up shows the "back cover," "spine," "front cover," and all the tabs that will need to be folded and tucked. Still, what you see is pretty close to how it ought to look on store shelves!
