Rome - Official HBO/Warner Announcement with Complete Details for Complete Gift Set on DVD and Blu-ray

Both seasons available in standard or high-def formats in mid-November

Posted by David Lambert
Four hundred years after the founding of the Republic, Rome is the wealthiest city in the world, a cosmopolitan metropolis of one million people, epicenter of a sprawling empire. But now, the city's foundations are crumbling, eaten away by corruption and excess...And two soldiers unwittingly become entwined in historical events, their fates inexorably tied to the fate of Rome itself. The entire award-winning, critically-acclaimed series will be available as a Blu-ray gift set, just in time for the holiday season.
We've been telling you for months - since May, to be precise - that HBO Video is preparing a release of Rome - The Complete Series Gift Set on high defintion Blu-ray Disc, and probably on DVD as well. In fact, that original report had package art for a DVD version, and later Blu-ray box art surfaced as well. Then, three weeks ago today, we reported that the release date for this title would be November 17th.

This morning HBO and distributor Warner Home Video finally confirmed all of this, with official announcements for DVD and Blu-ray Disc versions of Rome - The Complete Series Gift Set on the date we previously reported. They also verified the Blu-ray Disc price of $139.99 SRP, and provided the first info about pricing for the standard DVD version, which is $99.99 SRP. Running time is 1229 minutes.

The Blu-ray version (10 discs) is presented in 1080p true high definition widescreen, Audio is English - DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, with subtitle options in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Polish and Dutch. Bonus material includes Audio Commentary, Photo Gallery, Featurettes and a unique-to-Blu pair of extras: "Bloodlines," a richly detailed Character Guide, and an enhanced version of "All Roads Lead to Rome," an in-depth Interactive On-Screen Historical Guide.

The DVD version (11 discs) provides anamorphic widescreen video, English - Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. The same subtitle options are listed for this release as the Blu-ray, and extras included are the Audio Commentary, Photo Gallery, and Featurette. Both releases, in each format, contain all 22 episodes from both seasons of the series, which stars Kevin McKidd (Grey's Anatomy), Ray Stevenson (Punisher: War Zone), Kerry Condon (Angela's Ashes) and Polly Walker (Caprica).

Rome - The Complete Series Gift Set is available to pre-order at a discount from on both DVD and Blu-ray Disc. Once more, here's a look at the packaging for these two releases:
