Four hundred years after the founding of the Republic, Rome is the wealthiest city in the world, a cosmopolitan metropolis of one million people, epicenter of a sprawling empire. But now, the city's foundations are crumbling, eaten away by corruption and excess...and two soldiers unwittingly become entwined in historical events, their fates inexorably tied to the fate of Rome itself. The entire award-winning, critically-acclaimed series will be available as a Blu-ray gift set, just in time for the holiday season.
Amazon.com has begun taking pre-orders for
Rome - The Complete Series Gift Set on Blu-ray Disc. This listing of a high-def release is prior to HBO Video's official announcement for the title, so instead of a street date it only says "
This title has not yet been released. You may pre-order it now and we will deliver it to you when it arrives." Pricing is available, however, at $139.99 SRP (and you can lock in your copy at a nice discount if you place your order now).
There are no other details available so far. The studio description found at Amazon (which we've quoted above) hints at a release prior to the holiday season. We've heard that the studio hasn't locked down a specific street date yet, but is looking at the month of
September right now. But that could still change. Stay tuned, though, and we'll update you further on this title, just as soon as we find out more! In the meantime, here is a look at the package art that Amazon has on display. Notice on the spine that it has the DVD logo, with no mention of Blu-ray in sight. We expect that the BD version will be a variation of this design. And it probably also means that we can expect a standard-format DVD release of the same set, at the same time. Stay tuned for any word about that, too!
