The BBC's 2006 version of
Robin Hood has gotten rave reviews, both abroad and from USA fans who catch it on BBC America. Last June BBC Video released
the first season on DVD, and since then everyone's been waiting for the second season set to come out. Today the BBC and distributor Warner Home Video have let us know when the wait will be over...AND they've upped the ante on the first season along the way!
Robin Hood - Season 2 is scheduled to be in stores on
July 29th. This will be a 5-disc set on DVD format, running $79.98 SRP (CA$99.90 SRP in Canada). Running time is 578 minutes, and the video is going to be Anamorphic Widescreen. The release will have English-language audio and subtitles. Here is the studio description:
Season Two sets a new exciting precedent for Robin Hood and his gang, but never forgets the heart of the hero: to help the poor. The gang encounters a labyrinthine strong room, face indestructible armor, fight off pestilence, and battle world class assassins in the quest to rid Nottingham of poverty once and for all. Includes all 13 episodes from the action-packed second season, as seen on BBC America.
Besides all 13 episodes, you'll get several extras: a "Beneath the Hood: Making
Robin Hood Season 2" featurette, an exclusive "Marian" Featurette that focuses on the dramatic ending to the second season, an exclusive "Edward" Featurette which has the cast discussing the relationship between Marian and her father (Edward), and Commentary on 4 episodes.
On the same release date, BBC Video is going back to the first season and upgrading it to a high definition release! Yes,
Robin Hood - Season 1 will be available on Blu-ray Disc for the first time ever, on
July 29th. The 4-disc set will have all the same content (including extras) as last year's DVD release, but with episodes presented in 1080p video resolution. Cost is $99.98 SRP (CA$124.98 SRP in Canada).
No HD DVD support of either season is mentioned. At this time no word was provided about a Blu-ray version of the second season; stay tuned and we'll let you know if we hear anything.
