So far the reaction from our readers to this week's release of
Rhoda - Season 3 has been extremely positive, and those fans will certainly be glad to know that more is in the works! Over at the official Shout! Factory message boards, DVD producer Brian Ward
has posted word that we should "
Keep an eye out for S4 later in the year." It won't be in stores, though...he
explains elsewhere on those boards that the release will occur through the Shout! Select program, meaning it will be sold exclusively via the studio's online shop. Brian correctly points something out, though: as with the vast majority of titles in this program, you'll be able to
find people reselling these through the Amazon marketplace program if you have a reason to use Amazon instead of Shout!'s online store. Either way, it's a sale for the Factory. Stay tuned for details, cost and package art for
Season 4 once these are finalized and available!
On another note, a few of our readers have also spotted and asked us about a new pre-order listing at Amazon.com for a September 28th release that is simply titled
Rhoda - Volume 1. This is also coming from Shout! Factory, and Amazon shows it to be a single-disc release for the low cost of $7.93 SRP. What is it? This is just a budget-priced DVD best-of release with a handful of episodes on it, coming out in time for the holidays with the thought in mind that it would make a good stocking stuffer (or similar "light" gift) for more casual fans of the series. Shout! is putting out similar releases, at the same price point and streeting on the same day, for
Designing Women - Volume 1,
Swamp Thing - The Legend Continues and
Son of the Beach - Back to the Beach. These look to be similar to other low-end releases Shout! has put out in the past, often just consisting of the first disc from the first season set (one like that for
Punky Brewster comes to mind). No details or cover art yet, but we'll try to follow up (if we can) when we know a bit more about these new ones.
