Yesterday we
broke the news, based on a pre-order listing at Amazon (see button link below), that Shout! Factory is releasing
Rhoda - Season 2 on
January 26th. We immediately saw a lot of fan feedback, mostly positive and applauding this great news! However, there was also some cautionary feedback (via e-mail, at our Facebook fan page, and elsewhere), mentioning how last April's first season DVD release contained edited episodes, and wondering if there would be more of the same for the second season set.
In fact, one person
posted at Shout!'s message board concern about the "570 minute running time" that we listed in yesterday's news, and pointing to it as evidence that the new release will have edited episodes, too. Shout!'s DVD producer, Brian Ward, answered over there on that official message board, in a pair of posts that don't contain specifics yet, but promises that fans shouldn't be concerned:
The (running time) comes from Amazon, which was given a lot of placeholder information by our sales department. Trust me when I say that we're doing everything (and then some) to make sure this release is the one you're hoping for, in terms of episode length and quality...I can actually tell you all that we've pulled out ALL the stops to make sure we don't have the same problems as before. I can go into more detail at a slightly later date, but trust me when I say that seasons one and two will be worlds apart. You've spoken and we've listened.
That's great to hear, Brian...thanks for letting everybody know, and we hope you don't mind that we spread the word along here, since so many people are interested. There wasn't all good news, though: in a follow-up question there on Shout!'s board, one poster asked if Valerie herself would be available for extras on these sets. Ward later responded "
Unfortunately, Ms. Harper is unavailable for bonus material." Too bad, but we're glad to know that they at least looked into it. Hopefully they'll have some other great supplements up their sleeves. Stay tuned and we'll let you know anything further we find out, okay?
